Could Falcao Really Be Set To Choose Monaco Over Chelsea?

Colombian striker Radamel Falcao has been in prolific form for Atletico Madrid since joining them for a club record fee of €40 million in the summer of 2011, scoring nearly a goal per game. The prolific forward has plundered in 70 goals in 90 appearances, helping the Spanish outfit to three trophies – Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and most recently, Copa Del Rey.

Even though Falcao will be able to compete in the Champions League with Atletico next year, the 27-year-old has been widely tipped for a summer move away from the Spanish capital of Madrid, with Chelsea reportedly favourites for his signature.

Atletico Madrid coach, Diego Simeone, admitted that he will hold no grudges if the most sought-after striker in the world decides to leave for a new challenge abroad.

Chelsea are eyeing a new goal scorer in the transfer market with reports suggesting that owner Abramovich is keen on recruiting the Colombia international. Blues’ strikers Fernando Torres and Demba Ba have failed to really trouble the opposition but the addition of Falcao could really terrorize defences.

There are very few clubs in the world who can afford Falcao, with Atletico valuing him in excess of £50 million. One such club is Chelsea, who have no hesitation in bidding such a huge sum for the Colombian.

French club Monaco is another, who are ambitiously targeting back-to-back league titles after having achieved promotion to Ligue 1 this season. They have already spent big money this summer, paying around £60 million to bring Porto pair Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez to France.

And their spending is set to continue, with Dailymail reporting that Monaco are the current favourites for the Falcao’s signature. The report suggests that the striker is due to have a medical before the French club officially announce their third signing of the window.

Assistant coach Jean Petit confirmed the news, saying, “Yes, we are expecting Falcao and four or five other players of his quality. We have spoken and we continue to speak with Falcao and his representatives, negotiations are ongoing. We hope to seal a deal as soon as possible.”

So according to the latest reports Monaco are now signing Falcao – please say it is not true, we want him in the Premier League with Chelsea.
