Could Chelsea Usurp Liverpool’s Move For Shaqiri?

The 23-year-old Xherdan Shaqiri has been unable to nail down a regular spot in Bayern’s star studded line-up and he could be sold by the Bundesliga club in January, according to the Daily Star. Shaqiri is not happy at having played just a little more than 300 minutes of league football and starting only three league games this season.

The Swiss international has been continually linked with an exit from the Allianz Arena and the report suggests that the club are expecting bids for his services in January. Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Shaqiri and they are expected to make a move for the tricky winger.

However, Chelsea could make a last minute move and potentially hijack Liverpool’s and Tottenham Hotspurs’ bid for Shaqiri, just like last season when they bought Willian and Mohamed Salah from under the noses of their rivals.

It is difficult to see where Shaqiri will play but he could be bought as a direct replacement for Andre Schurrle, who looks likely to be offloaded by Jose Mourinho in January.
