Could Chelsea Sign Higuain To Replace Costa?

In the last few weeks as reported by The Guardian there have been numerous reports claiming Chelsea are interested in signing former Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentine who has taken Serie A by storm is said to be a target for Chelsea incoming manager Antonio Conte this summer. This is as reports claim Diego Costa could be going back to Spain with Atletico Madrid his preferred destination.

Should Chelsea should let Diego Costa go if he is not happy in the Premier League? The Brazilian/Spaniard is a good striker but he doesn’t seem to be able to stop getting into the bad books of officials and his injury problems are well noted. Chelsea may do better than Costa.

On current form there is no one better than Higuain to replace Costa at Chelsea. He is reportedly available for €94 million or £73.14 million which is a bit pricey but then that’s the going rate for players of Higuain’s quality in the current transfer market.

Have a close look at Higuain’s statistics courtesy of Wikipedia in the last three years and you will understand why he deserves such a big price tag. In the 2013/2014 season, Higuain played 49 times and scored 29 goals creating 13 assists as well. In the 2014/2015 season, in 51 games, he scored 30 goals and created 12 assists. So far this season, he has played 39 games and scored 36 times creating 4 assists as well.

This record shows he is very consistent and surely better than Costa. In the last three seasons, Costa statistics reads

2015/2016

40 games played so far, 15 goals and 7 assists

2014/2015

35 games, 20 goals 3 assists

2013/2014

52 games 36 goals 4 assists

So based on the above should Chelsea let Costa go and replace him with Higuain if possible or should the Blues add depth to their strikeforce by adding Higuain to it?
