Costa Wary Of Cech Exit

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has spoken out after the sale of goalkeeper Petr Cech to Arsenal. The Blues allowed the legend to leave after more than 10 years at the club, for around £11m. However, Costa has warned that his deal could come back to haunt Chelsea in the future.

The goalkeeper swapped Stamford Bridge for the Emirates in June, and played against his former side in yesterday’s Community Shield, playing a big part in Arsenal’s win.

Chelsea allowed Cech to leave for rivals Arsenal in what was a shock deal, considering Arsenal’s defensive issues just got a whole lot less worrying now they have the Czech. Costa, who finished as Chelsea’s top scorer in the side’s Premier League win last year, thinks the decision to allow Cech to leave may come back to bite.

“Petr is a legendary player who has made a huge impact in world football,” said Costa.

“We think a lot of him. I certainly do, as a player and as a person.”

“Last season we had two top keepers. It’s important to have a keeper who you know is capable of pulling off a wonder save in the event of a defensive mistake.”

“That’s the difference when you have a top-level keeper. It gives you that extra bit of confidence.”

“Now over the summer they have strengthened well. We know that they will be fighting hard to win this trophy as well as the league title. They have a good enough side to be in with a shout.”
