Costa Dismisses Transfer Rumours

Chelsea striker Diego Costa was reported to have asked for a move back to former club Atletico Madrid this summer, a rumour he has now played down.

Marca reported at the end of the season that Costa had failed to settle in London and had contacted the Atletico board to ask about the possibility of a return.

However, Costa has insisted he is happy at Stamford Bridge and that he is in no way seeking an exit.

The Spaniard said: “You only consider that when you receive something [an offer]. I had a great season at Chelsea and I was a champion.”

“Everyone knows the affection I have for Atletico and how much I like this city, but London is another life and I’m also happy there.”

Speaking about his life playing for Spain, Costa admitted it has been tough fitting in, but goals will bring him further confidence.

“What I’m missing is to score goals, to play better and feel better physically,” he said. “I know I can give a lot more and I hope I can start to show that now.”

“Each time I’m here, I feel more comfortable, I feel more in tune with the group.”

“I have to be better and to be in good shape to do well with the national team.”

“Strikers need to score goals and that is what I’m missing,” he said. “Goals give you confidence – this is something pending.”

“I have to do things better to get a good run in games and things will be go better with me. It’s very important for me personally to score goals.”
