Costa Deemed Man Of The Match Against Arsenal

Even with all the ups and downs Chelsea have had to go through this season, it seems that Mourinho is still his players’ biggest supporter. Rumors had it that because of the latest results and because of the weak performances by some players, the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge has not been that great. The victory against Arsenal and what followed should dismiss all the negative comments as Mourinho proved more than supportive for Costa whose behaviour has been criticised in certain quarters.

According to the Guardian, despite probably attracting a lot of criticism from those who saw what Costa did on the pitch, Mourinho advised the Brazilian born Spanish international to continue being proactive.“He played like he has to play and that is why you have full stadiums and you sell football to television around the world for millions and millions. Because the game has to be played like that, OK? Man of the match, for me” the Portuguese boss said. He also took a shot at Arsenal after calling them out for not knowing how to lose. Mourinho said: “My view is this – and this why I’m proud of my club – I played against Arsenal maybe 12, 15, 18 times and only once he didn’t moan. And that day we lost. We lost the cup [Community Shield], it was not good for us but we behaved in a fantastic way – no excuses, not crying, not moaning. I have to cope with my defeats; tonight he has to cope with his defeat.”

Despite some of Costa’s behavior being a little exaggerated, he really did manage to give Chelsea the edge just like Mourinho said. Hopefully he will not overdo it as the season progresses and he will know when to dial it down because some referees will not react the same as Mike Dean. Costa is a great player to have on your side and not the kind of player you want to face which is one of the best compliments a player can receive meaning he is a genuine asset and a player who garners the respect of his opponents.
