Chelsea’s Youth Academy To Encourage Versatility

Chelsea’s new project which has at its core Mourinho’s impeccable work ethic seems to be a lot bigger than anyone imagines. Apparently the club will be looking to invest in their own and not only improve the team by transferring expensive players. According to the Daily Star, the youth academy is a priority for the staff who will want to create world class footballers by emphasizing on versatility and outstanding pitch awareness. Reading’s Nathaniel Chalobah who is on loan from Chelsea, recently revealed his excellent ability of understanding the game and performing at the highest level possible regardless of the defensive role he gets assigned to him.

The 20 year old who is equally good in 4 different positions explained that he owes his early success to Chelsea’s academy who implement a strong set of concepts. One of the most important ideas behind players’ development is the fact that if you become great in every position you are played, you are bound to become one of the best once you settle in with one or two roles. It is in fact a great way of seeing things considering how important it is for players to know how to read the game and how to understand their adversaries, regardless of their position on the pitch.

Chalobah is under contract with Chelsea until 2018 and will probably be joining Zouma in the center of the defense in a year or two. The Blues’ approach seems to be working properly already with players like him, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathan Ake already making big steps towards the first team
