Chelsea Thump MK Dons In The FA Cup

Well it really does look like the old Chelsea are back after watching Guus Hiddink’s team comprehensively beat their hosts MK Dons 5-1 in Milton Keynes on Sunday afternoon. The prize for their fifth round destruction of the Championship side is a home tie against Manchester City in the sixth round. Guus Hiddink boasts an unbeaten record in the FA Cup having won the competition with Chelsea in his last period in charge of the Blues.

Today Hiddink’s side were relentless against Karl Robinson’s side who in fairness tried to play attacking football and did not just park the bus. Robinson needed Chelsea to have an off day but that simply did not happen as Oscar was the star man, scoring a sweet hat-trick with three well-taken goals and he should have had four if not for Diego Costa trying to convert (and missing) a cross which was on a plate for the Brazilian playmaker.

MK Dons did manage to regain parity after Oscar’s first goal making the score 1-1 when Potter equalised on 21 minutes but after that it was all Chelsea as they went to half-time leading 3-1 as Oscar scored all 3 of his goals in the 1st half in his man of the match performance. Eden Hazard added a penalty on 55 mins, ending his 28 game scoring drought and Traore rounded out the scoring on 62 minutes.

So it was a resounding, ruthless victory for Chelsea who played good-looking football throughout and will be looking forward to the rest of the season with a feeling that normal service has been resumed. Their 6th round tie against Man City is certainly the match of the round and it will test Guus Hiddink’s unbeaten record in the competition but I am sure the manager will quite fancy the challenge based on what he is seeing from his side now plus he will get the added boost from the transfer signings of Pato and Miazga.

The FA Cup looks like it will be a cracking competition this year as there will be 11 Premier League teams left in the 6th round should West Brom beat Peterborough in their replay. Chelsea will face Man City on Saturday February 20th at 3pm and crucially the game will take place at Stamford Bridge while holders Arsenal face Hull City at home.
