Chelsea target Dani Alves looks to have decided against leaving Barcelona after the Brazilian full back initially claimed to have sealed his move to England after the current season, but is not ready to sign a contract extension until 2016, according to Metro.

The Blues have been without a specialised right back for the past few years, and were looking all over Europe for the solution. Players like Glen Johnson were overlooked during his spell at the club, and the player is now England’s first team right back, now at Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers. Chelsea were alerted immediately after Alves claimed his openness to an English move, but must reassess the player’s potential at the current age. The 31-year old has undoubtedly been impressive in several competitions, but critics may say he has seen his best years already. Jose Mourinho is building a wonder squad at Chelsea, and wants to emulate the squad he prepared in his first spell. Alves will certainly settle at Stamford Bridge, but the period of his contributions remain prime concern for some.

Alves has been one of the world’s most renowned right backs, and has been a consistent performer for Barcelona. His contributions are not limited to domestic spells, as he has been a permanent feature in the Brazilian national squad. He was part of Felipe Scolari’s World Cup squad that came close to reaching the final.
