Chelsea are reportedly close on tabling a bid for Augsburg left-back Abdul Baba Rahman, who is set to replace Filipe Luis. The Premier League champions will launch a £14 million bid for Baba Rahman this week in preparation for the departure of Filipe Luis.

It was heavily reported yesterday that Luis, who spent just 1 year at Stamford Bridge, would leave the club and rejoin Atletico. Chelsea are said to have paid £15.8 million for the Brazilian last year, and are insistent on allowing the player to go at a fee closer to £16 million.

As for Chelsea, the chase to replace the left-back is well and truly on. Mourinho himself admitted that they would look for a suitable replacement, and it seems their man is to be Rahman.

Augsburg are said to want £17.5 million for the player they signed last summer, and may be reluctant to sell him for lower than that valuation. Chelsea are reportedly willing to offer up to £14 million.

Rahman has shown a big rise in his ability over the last season or so. Last season in particular, the defender made his name as one of the brightest left backs in the game. With his age as well, it would seem the Ghana international is more than capable of adapting to the English game early on.

It will be a tough ask for Rahman to budge Azpilicueta from the left back spot he currently occupies, but in time who knows how the youngster may progress.
