Chelsea Step Up Khedira Chase As Possible Replacement For Mikel

Chelsea have already acquired the services of former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona but want to add another midfielder to their ranks before the start of the new season.

They have been linked with a big money swoop for the highly-talented Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba but the Frenchman is set to stay with the Old Lady this summer.

Jose Mourinho has now targeted a move for Sami Khedira, whom he coached during his stint as Real Madrid boss. The Germany World Cup winner is a target for Mourinho as he looks to improve the strength and depth of his squad.

Mikel started just 11 league games last season and Mourinho is ready to offload the Nigerian, according to the Express. The 27-year-old is wanted in Serie A and Mourinho is willing to push through a deal to free up space to land Khedira.

A bid of £20 million is expected to be launched by Chelsea for Khedira’s services and they will not have the same problem as Arsenal since they have the finances to meet Khedira’s high wage demands.
