Chelsea Sign Remy After Torres Departure

Queens Park Rangers had offered striker Loic Remy fresh terms on a new contract in a desperate attempt to convince the player to stay, after the Frenchman was approached by several premier league clubs over a permanent move in the summer window, according to Metro.

The Blues can breath a sigh of relief after a UEFA event held in Europe revealed the draws for the Champions League group stage. Jose Mourinho’s men have been drawn against Maribor, Schalke and Sporting Lisbon, and the Portuguese boss will be fairly pleased with the same. As the Champions League gets underway, the domestic cup competitions will also be held together, and Chelsea will need a big squad to deal with the hectic nature of the fixtures. The club have confirmed that Fernando Torres will be leaving Stamford Bridge for AC Milan for a season long loan spell, understandably due to the striker’s weak form in recent years. Milan will evaluate the strike power offered by the player, and could bid for a permanent move next year if the loan spell is successful.

Chelsea had been monitoring Remy’s contractual situation with Rangers, as the 27-year old has already turned down the likes of Newcastle United, and was denied a move to Liverpool due to a failed medical. Harry Redknapp revealed the release clause in Remy’s contract, and seemingly last night Chelsea met the terms of the clause and agreed personal terms with the French striker. Remy looks like a real improvement over Fernando Torres as he has the pace Torres and the finishing abilities used to have in his Liverpool days.

The Chelsea squad looks quite balanced now after the addition of Loic Remy with only the defense possibly needing a back-up so deadline day could be relatively quiet at Stamford Bridge.
