Chelsea Sign Baba Rahman

Chelsea have agreed a deal for Augsburg left-back Abdul Baba Rahman. The German side officially announced the deal last night after both sides agreed a fee and the player completed a medical. The fee remains undisclosed but is believed to be around £18m.

Augsburg confirmed on their official website:

“Augsburg and Chelsea have agreed on an immediate transfer of left-back Baba Rahman. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the fee.”

The German club’s general manager Stefan Reuter said:

“Baba Rahman has developed tremendously in his year with us and made a great leap. It’s not just reward for his achievements, but also for our work, if international giants like Chelsea are interested in signing him.”

Rahman had this to say on the move:

“I thank all those responsible, the coaches and fans of Augsburg, for their support last year.

“I have to take this chance to play at a top club in England, although I was actually set on a long-term stay in Augsburg a year ago. I felt very comfortable in the team.”

The Blues confirmed the deal on their official website [Chelseafc.com], and in an interview with Rahman the Ghanaian added that he was very happy to be joining such a big club:

“I am very happy to sign for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“I can’t wait to train with my new team-mates and am very much looking forward to working with them and Mr (Jose) Mourinho.”

Baba Rahman will come into the squad and replace the void left by Filipe Luis, who ended his 1 year spell at the club by moving back to Atletico Madrid. We wish Baba all the best during his time at Chelsea.
