Chelsea are set to win the race to sign 21-year-old left back Abdul Rahman Baba from Augsburg. The players agent has revealed that Augsburg are expecting between €18-20 million for the Ghana international.

As reported by the Daily Express, player representative Sascha Empacher has slammed suggestions that the full-back has rejected a move to Stamford Bridge.

“No, that’s not true. It is the classic example of bad investigative journalism.” Said Baba’s agent when asked about the apparent rejection.

“Many big European clubs are interested in Baba, but they do not want to be named. Do Augsburg want €18-20m (£12.5m-14m)? Yes, that is correct.”

“There is a lot of competition for the player. If a side is interested, then they have to make an offer to the club.”

Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Arsenal, as well as Manchester City have both been linked to the defender, who made 29 starts for Augsburg last season, helping the side finish 5th place, their highest ever finish in the Bundesliga.

Chelsea have options on the left of the defence, with both Cesar Azpilicueta and Filipe Luis there for Mourinho to choose from. Baba’s arrival would certainly be a strange addition with both of the established left backs as his competition, however it may be that Filipe Luis’ departure would pave a way for the Ghanaian.

Luis was unable to assert himself at Chelsea last season, making only 9 Premier League starts, it is reported that the Brazilian is looking for a transfer away from Chelsea this summer.
