Chelsea might have some leverage after all when it comes to signing Diego Costa. After Courtois turned out to be part of a possible exchange between Atletico and the Blues, Mourinho could also use Torres to encourage the Spanish side to let their star player go. According to Metro, the Spanish international is also keen on returning to the club which introduced him to the big leagues. Despite spending several seasons at Stamford Bridge he failed to acclimatise and a move would surely be beneficial.

After rumors of a possible exchange between Atletico and Chelsea hit the news, fans seem more and more confident the Blues will finally get the striker they so badly needed throughout the season. The reason behind that confidence is the pattern the Spanish side have displayed over the past few seasons. They have always sold their strikers for big money right after finding the right replacement. Funny thing is this habit began with Torres who was replaced by Aguero. The Argentinian was than replaced by Falcao who in turn was replaced by Villa and Costa.

Hopefully for Chelsea, Atletico will repeat this patter at the end of this season. One other reason for which Torres might leave London is Simeone’s appreciation for the Spaniard. In recent statements, Atletico’s manager admitted to being an admirer of the striker who apparently will always be welcome back in Madrid. All Torres has to do now is get approval from Mourinho who will remain without any offensive option at the end of the season. With Demba Ba and Eto’o set to leave, and with Lukaku also linked to many clubs, Torres might be the last to leave of the star strikers.
