Chelsea Secure Stamford Bridge Legend For Next Season

If you look back at the way John Terry talked about his future at Stamford Bridge, it’s clear that he had no idea he would be staying. After what happened with Lampard, it was clear that JT’s days in London were likely over. Fortunately for him, the management changed and Hiddink took over. The Dutchman is a strong supporter of the 35-year-old center back who despite being the oldest player in Chelsea’s lot, is still more than capable of pushing through an entire Premier League season at the highest intensity possible. According to the Guardian, things got better and better for Terry who not only got a contract extension but might have also received the chance to end his career in glory. This season has been a bust and if fans would have stayed indoors instead of protesting, JT’s last game would have been a memory ready to forget. Being sent off in extra-time while your team is losing is not the way to leave the club for which you’ve made 700 appearances in almost 20 years.

Even if his role in the next Premier League season is not crystal clear, it`s still great to have this man around. His spirit needs to be passed on and his love for Chelsea needs to be taught to others. Terry played for a single club in his life and has dedicated himself completely to the Blue shirt, a concept which is very rare these days. Fortunately, having him around both on and off the pitch could inspire some youngsters into giving it their all to serve this club. There were talks of Terry taking over one of Chelsea’s youth teams but nothing is settled even with both director Marina Granovskaia and chairman Bruce Buck giving statements after the new 1-year deal was signed.

“We look forward to another year with John at the club, and believe he will be an important figure in the dressing room and on the pitch as we look to bring success back to the club next season” Granovskaia said. Buck was a bit more controlled in his statement but gave the impression that Terry will be given the chance to become the man to beat in terms of records: “We are delighted John will spend another year at the club. He has been the leader of the Chelsea squad throughout the most successful period in our history. He recently reached the 700-appearance mark, which is testament to his professionalism and dedication as well as his undoubted talent.” Regardless of what management said, what’s important is to remember that Terry will be around next year as well.
