Chelsea Reignite Interest In Swiss International

Chelsea are appearing in the news a great deal at the moment with many reports suggesting that Antonio Conte is still keen on adding depth to his options in defence. This comes after signing Spanish left-back Marcus Alonso from Fiorentina and resigning centre-back David Luiz from PSG at the end of the transfer window and is on the back of Chelsea comprehensively beating Premier League Champions Leicester City 3-0 last time out with a super solid defensive performance using 3 at the back.

So it seems strange given the recent performances and signings that Chelsea are still defender shopping but TransferMarketWeb are reporting that Chelsea have reignited their interest in Wolfburg’s Swiss international left-back Ricardo Rodriguez who is seemingly unhappy in Germany and may well be looking at a winter departure. The news on Rodriguez comes with Antonio Conte supposedly not enamoured with the impression Marcus Alonso has made in the Premier League. Chelsea have been linked with the Swiss player in the past as have other Premier League sides and other top European sides but the news of Chelsea tracking Rodriguez again comes as a bit of s surprise given the play of the club lately and given that it is so early in the season for a new signing to be judged.

It is over two months until Chelsea could look to bring in the Swiss international of Chilean descent – Ricardo Rodriguez – so this should give ample time for Marcus Alonso to show his stuff and perhaps mean that Antonio Conte will be willing to stick with the options he currently has at left back in Alonso and fellow Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta. This seems especially likely given that Conte looks to want to use 3 at the back all the time.
