Chelsea Receive Great News From Rome

Chelsea is set on making their third important transfer of the season. After landing Fabregas and Diego Costa, the defense is next in line to receive proper reinforcements. According to Metro, Roma’s Mehdi Benatia who was one of the best defenders in the last Serie A season, wants to play for Mourinho. This is not the first time the defender is linked with the Blues who were interested in his services a few years back. The 27 year old Morocco international has spent most of his career in France but has further developed his skills while at Udinese and Roma. Even though he has spent just one year in the Italian capital, he is already looking to come to the Premier League.

Benatia was also linked to Manchester City but his transfer fell through after the Citizens directed their attention towards Eliaquim Mangala who is similarly priced. Mourinho tried to sign the former Marseille player back in 2004 but Benatia refused to leave the French side. Since then, the Morocco international has become one of the most reliable and efficient defenders in Europe. He would be a great addition to the team which needs at least one more central defender to provide competition for Cahill and Terry. The former English international is probably in his last year at Stamford Bridge and Benatia seems like an excellent replacement.
