Chelsea Player Ratings vs West Brom

Chelsea recorded their first win of the season today after a 3-2 victory over West Brom. The Baggies pushed Chelsea all the way in the game and gave Mourinho’s men a little reminder that Premier League clubs, big or small, are continually growing stronger.

West Brom started the game on the back foot, but won a penalty after Nemanja Matic fouled Callum McManaman inside the area. The resulting spot-kick was saved by Thibaut Courtois who returned following his suspension.

Soon after, debutant Pedro opened the scoring for Chelsea with a little help from a deflection. The Blues deservedly took the lead, and then doubled their advantage via Diego Costa’s goal – which was assisted beautifully by Pedro.

Morrison made up for his earlier penalty miss when he scored to put Chelsea’s lead in doubt, only for Cesar Azpilicueta to cooly slot the ball away just before half time to end the first 45, 3-1 ahead.

West Brom fought hard during the second half, and looked a dead cert to give Chelsea a run for their money. New signing Rondon broke through the Blues’ defence and was brought down by captain John Terry, who was subsequently shown a red card.

With 10 men on the field, Chelsea stood strong. Despite conceding due to another Morrison goal, the Blues ran down the clock and performed well to gain all three points.
