Chelsea Planning Biggest Transfer Moves Yet

It’s been an inconsistent time for Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge so far as he gets to know his squad and them him. People expected him to become the club’s savior after the disastrous season the Blues had under Mourinho. While the Italian managed to have some of his strategies and mentality transferred onto the current players, the team still has a lot to work on until they reach maximum potential. In order for the former Juventus boss to find the right balance apparently, there are a few moves Chelsea needs to approve and fund. While the midfield seems to be the most solid part of the team, the defense and the attack could use some tweaking. Currently there are three major transfers Chelsea are being linked to.

The first one and possibly the most plausible is that of German defender Antonio Rudiger. The 23-year-old has been scouted by Chelsea in the past and given the team’s current situation, he would be of use to Conte and the club. While he just signed a permanent deal with Italian giants AS Roma, he might not say no to the chance of playing in the Premier League. Currently he is struggling to recover from a cruciate ligament rupture and is expected to return in a couple of weeks. The Romans are now using Fazio and Manolas as center-backs with Juan Jesus and Vermanelen to serve as substitutes. While Rudiger would not be ready for the Premier League at this moment, he might want to have the chance to play more, a chance which will not be easy to come by in Serie A given the fact that the Spalletti is not very keen on using a rotation system for the defense.  The Telegraph thinks that the first bid will be made as soon as the January transfer window opens. Roma is not the club to hold on to their players, especially if they have that particular position covered.

The second and third transfer rumors which emerged these days link none other than Angel Di Maria and Antoine Griezmann to a move to Stamford Bridge. While both may sound outrageous, there are reasons behind both rumors. First, there’s PSG’s Argentine winger who could be taking Hazard’s spot down the left flank. Why? In order to allow Belgium’s star to play as a no.10 behind the strikers. Oscar and Fabregas have not been on top of their game and might even be let go in the near future. Di Maria is not happy with the things are going at PSG and is still keen on proving that Manchester United made a huge mistake in selling him so quickly. Griezmann’s transfer rumor is another story. The Frenchman was one of Chelsea’s top targets for almost a year now and might finally leave Atletico after failing to win the Champions League twice. Even if it is true that Chelsea haven’t been as successful in terms of progressing through the biggest competition in Europe in recent times, the club has great ambition to win Europe’s biggest prize again. At least with the Blues he would get to take on a new challenge and an impressive set of teammates. The bad news is that both transfers are very unlikely to happen this winter. The earliest fans could see either of the two at Stamford Bridge would be the summer of 2017.
