Chelsea were linked to Victor Valdes immediately after the Spaniard’s club announced that de Gea agreed to a 4 year deal. Barcelona’s former number one would represent a solution for the Blues who just lost Courtois to a knee injury. Despite having Begovic, Mourinho still needs a world class keeper to have the Bosnian’s back. The defense need the security of a back-up top notch stopper, without which Chelsea could have some serious trouble.

According to the Daily Express though, Valdes’s arrival to London is just a rumor and nothing more. Mourinho has turned down any chance of bringing in the Spaniard and expressed his happiness regarding Begovic and also Jamal Blackman who is now Chelsea’s second choice.

It is to be seen what happens next as the club’s poor form might determine the management to start making moves again. Selling Cech might prove to have been a big mistake if Courtois does not recover properly in the shortest of time. Knee injuries can be career-ruining; see Valdes; and Courtois might not return as strong as he was before. With that in mind, criticism for allowing Cech to join Arsenal might emerge again.

Courtois is out until January and there is no way of knowing what will happen after that. It case something happens to Begovic as well, the Premier League will allow Chelsea to make an emergency loan which is probably the only way we will be seeing Valdes playing under Mourinho but it still looks very unlikely.
