Chelsea Have A New No.1

Chelsea have secured the services of 28 year old Asmir Begovic who will be taking on the number 1 shirt left vacant by Cech’s departure.

The 28 year old Bosnia-Herzegovina international who has played 173 games for Stoke has said goodbye to Britannia Stadium where he spent the last 5 years. According to BBC the two clubs agreed to a £8million transfer fee which is a fair price for Begovic who was also rumored to be targeted by Manchester United. Even though the keeper will be coming to the Emirates as second fiddle, he is at peace with that situation. In his goodbye message addressed to Stoke fans he mentioned that joining Chelsea is a step up and also a new challenge. Mourinho insisted on Begovic’s transfer who was promised the chance to grow and improve an all levels.

Chelsea are now settled in terms of goalkeepers, and have even managed to make a profit after selling Cech to Arsenal and signing Begovic from Stoke. The 28 year old will try and compete with Courtois for a spot in the first eleven but it is very unlikely he will manage to take the Belgian’s place. Begovic is good but not Petr Cech good which means he will make most of his appearances probably during the FA Cup or while Courtois is rested. Begovic will still fancy his chances of pushing Courtois for the no.1 spot though, and if you fancy your chances of success too then check out promocode betfair for the best deals.

Begovic has agreed to a 4 year deal and will be taking on the no.1 shirt left vacant by Cech. He will have some pretty big shoes to fill and very harsh competition up ahead. Hopefully being new at Stamford Bridge, will provide competition that will help Courtois improve even more, despite being already one of the best keepers in the world.
