Chelsea are set to sign one of the most powerful defenders currently performing in European Football. According to Metro, Roma’s Mehdi Benatia has made Mourinho’s transfer wanted-list. The Morocco international who is also being monitored by Tottenham and Manchester United, has impressed since moving to Roma. In his over 100 Serie A appearances, the 27 year old scored a dozen goals despite being a center back. He would make a perfect long term solution for Chelsea who now are counting on Terry, Cahill and Zouma. Defense wise, the Blues definitely need the man power. If they manage to sign Benatia they will have all the angles covered by excellent back-ups.

Currently Benatia’s transfer fee can be met by Chelsea using the money they got from the Lukaku deal. The Morocco international is valued by Roma at £30million which is double the amount of money the Italians paid Udinese to sign him to a 5 year contract. The 27 year old is now considered one of the best central defenders in Europe and he would make a great addition to Mourinho’s squad which already looks a lot better than last year. Even with players like Luiz and Lampard leaving Stamford Bridge, the club made sure the right replacements were brought in. Costa and Drogba will replace Eto’o and Demba Ba, Luis will replace Ashley Cole, Fabregas will replace Lampard and apparently Benatia will replace Luiz.
