Chelsea Defender Set To Leave

Chelsea have apparently agreed to sell defender Filipe Luis back to Atletico Madrid, a move that will see the Brazilian go back to his former club that he left just one year ago.

The left back, who arrived at Stamford Bridge from Atletico for around £16 million last summer, is said to be fed up of life on the sidelines at Chelsea, and wants to return back to the Spanish capital in order to rekindle his regular footballing career.

Luis was signed by Chelsea in order to replace English veteran Ashley Cole who left for Roma last summer, but things never seemed to work out for the Brazilian who lost his place to Cesar Azpilicueta throughout the year.

The 29-year-old made 15 appearances for Chelsea in his only season at the club, and the defender scored his only goal in a 3-1 League Cup victory at Derby in December.

Previously spending four years with Atletico, Luis won a La Liga title in 2013/14 but soon after made his move to Chelsea. As previously mentioned, the Blues paid around £15.8 million for him. They look set to lose around £800,000 on that deal, as reports suggest Atletico are only willing to fork out £15 million to reclaim his services.

Chelsea could look for a replacement for Filipe Luis almost instantly, with the Guardian reporting that Augsburg wing-back Abdul Baba Rahman is a target of Chelsea’s. The defender is rated at a reported £17 million, a fee Chelsea are more than capable of paying for the 21-year-old Ghana international.
