Chelsea Closing In On Second Atletico Transfer

Filipe Luis postponed negotiations with his current club in order to receive an offer from Chelsea. The Blues were tough during negotiations but seem to have finally agreed on paying Luis’s buy-out clause which is set at about £20million. According to the Independent, the Brazilian is expected to complete a medical shortly. The left-back is seen as the perfect replacement for Cole who signed with AS Roma after being declared a free agent and with Ryan Bertrand also looking to leave the Blues Mourinho had to move to secure his preferred target for the left back spot.

Chelsea’s official website published an official statement about the Brazilian defenders imminent arrival: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Filipe Luis.”

The 28 year old Luis will more than likely pass the medical and is expected to join Chelsea’s squad sometime during the next two weeks assuming the final hurdle of the player and Chelsea agreeing personal terms can be got over. He will make a great addition to the team especially considering the Blue’s shortage of players when it comes to their defensive department.

Luis joined the Spanish Champions in 2010 after leaving Deportiva La Coruna, making 98 appearances in all competitions for the Madrid side, while winning the Europa League in 2012, the Copa del Rey in 2013 and the La Liga title in 2014 when they held off Barca and Real Madrid so Luis certainly is a winner and he has 4 caps for his country but failed to make it to the World Cup thanks to Luiz Felipe Scolari’s closed selection policy which only had him in the standby squad.
