Chelsea closing in on Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane

When Jose Mourinho looks to rest John Terry and Gary Cahill in the future, Kurt Zouma could partner up with Raphael Varane next season as Real Madrid seem ready to let the French international go.

News that Pepe has received a new contract offer from Real will surely get Mourinho excited. The Portuguese boss has always been a big fan of the 21 year old Varane who does not seem to be able to find his place in Ancelotti’s starting eleven.

Even though he is considered one of the best young defenders in the world, the French international has struggled to become a team regular. Hopefully for Chelsea, that will seriously lean the balance in their favor during the summer when an offer is expected to be sent to Madrid. According to Metro, the chances for Varane to stay at the Bernabeu after Pepe seals the deal are very slim despite the fact that the French defender is under contract until 2020.

Even though Varane is extremely young, he is more than capable of playing at the highest level possible. His great relationship with Mourinho is also a plus if transfer negotiations are to begin. Chelsea’s future plan to pair Zouma and Varane in the centre of the defense could happen as soon as this summer.

Having the 21 year old signed for next season would be a massive step when it comes to accomplishing what Mourinho intends to do. His goal of creating a team that will dominate football for years to come is looking quite possible now given the age of many of his players and the time they have already spent playing together.
