Chelsea Close On Left Back

Chelsea Close On Left Back

Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Baba Rahman from Augsburg after apparently seeing a bid of £17.5m accepted for the 21-year-old defender.

The Blues shipped left back Filipe Luís back to Atlético Madrid after one miserable season at Stamford Bridge, and now Mourinho has found the Brazilian’s successor in the Ghana international.

“Both clubs are still working on fine-tuning but we hope the agreement will be finalised soon,” Rahman’s agent, Sascha Empacher, told the Guardian.

Mourinho also confirmed on Friday that Chelsea are in the market for new additions to the squad.

“We are trying to sign a left-back.” he said.

“We have only one [César Azpilicueta]. We are trying.”

Rahman has shown a big rise in his ability over the last season or so. Last season in particular, the defender made his name as one of the brightest left backs in the game. With his age as well, it would seem the Ghana international is more than capable of adapting to the English game early on.

It will be a tough ask for Rahman to budge Azpilicueta from the left back spot he currently occupies, but in time who knows how the youngster may progress.

Rahman began his career in Ghana at Accra-based Dreams FC. Since then, the youngster has seen his career rise greatly, and was recently nominated as the best left-back in his first season in the Bundesliga. He narrowly lost out to Bayern Munich’s Juan Bernat.
