Chelsea Begin Talks For Costa

According to the Express, reports have suggested Jose Mourinho is serious about his interest in Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, and that a £35 million deal is being discussed between both clubs.

Mourinho has been visibly struggling with his strike force through the course of the season. The decision to send both Romelu Lukaku and Victor Moses on loan has backfired, and Chelsea find themselves uncertain about the chase for the Barclays Premier League title. Reports earlier this week suggested Chelsea would have to pay Fernando Torres £10 million as compensation if they decide to offload him in the summer, which probably explains the club’s decision not to replace him before the season.

Costa has established himself as one of the best strikers in Europe, and has been performing at the peak of his career at Atletico. At 25-years of age, he has scored 41 goals in 89 appearances for the Spanish outfit. He began his international career playing for Brazil, but as soon as he was eligible he switched nationalities to Spanish, and he was part of Vicente Del Bosque’s squad in February. Costa would be a valuable addition to the Chelsea squad, and could be accompanied by another summer arrival, given that Demba Ba will also likely make way.
