Cech To Give Up His Number One Status To Courtois

Despite being only 32 years old, Cech has lost his spot in Chelsea’s starting line-up. In order to keep Courtois at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho decided to give the Belgian the goalkeeper number one spot. According to the Daily Mail, the Blues did not want to lose such a promising young stopper as Courtois who is set on being the club’s first choice for a long time. The choice was a tough one considering the fact that Cech has been on top of his game last season. He only conceded 27 goals which left him among the top three keepers in Europe. Unfortunately, his Belgian teammate was second best. The 22 year old conceded just 26 goals and even if his team did not play as many matches as Chelsea, he still managed some impressive numbers.

Courtois is an important piece in the Blues’ plans for the future. The youngster is seen as a true leader who next to players like Hazard will lead the club to success for many years to come. Even at such a young age, the Belgian international has a lot of experience. His years spent on loan offered him the opportunity to grow and improve as a keeper which eventually got Mourinho to choose him over Cech. What is even better is that Courtois will now have really tough competition which will help him grow even more. Unfortunately, the club cannot use two keepers at the same time which means Cech will either have to settle for a substitute position or leave before the end of the transfer window with PSG and Real Madrid reportedly monitoring the Czech keeper.
