Cech Being Courted By Monaco

Monaco are looking to make an attempt to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, after Real Madrid ended their serious interest in the shot stopper after signing Colombian international Keylor Navas, according to the Mirror.

Although Chelsea came out winners in their opening tie against Burnley, the attention of the media and the football community was focused only on Jose Mourinho’s first team sheet of the new Barclays Premier League campaign. Cech and Courtois have been fighting for the number one spot, and Mourinho has claimed that it is a good decision to have to make since he has the best two goalkeepers in the world. However, it was the Belgian who won the race in the opening fixture, but conceded early on in the game. It will be interesting to see how Mourinho sets up his team for the weekend fixture against Leicester City, as the Blues take on the second of the three promoted teams in the Premier League in consecutive fixtures.

Cech has served in the Chelsea goal for nearly a decade, and has been showing ageing signs on a few occasions. On the other hand, Courtois has proven his abilities in the Liga BBVA with Atletico for three consecutive seasons, and also played a crucial role in the club’s quest for the league title last season. Monaco would prove to be an attractive proposition for Cech as the club are investing heavily in talent since the recent takeover.
