Cahill Reckons It Is Lukaku’s Time To Shine

Now that Romelu Lukaku is back at Chelsea, there were questions about his role in the squad for the upcoming season. His chances of becoming a regular in the first-team were put into jeopardy when the Blues purchased young German international Andre Schurrle, and are also being linked with a move for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney. With the likes of Fernando Torres and Demba Ba already at the club, Lukaku looked set to spend another season warming the bench at Stamford Bridge.

However, he has been doing all he can to convince manager Jose Mourinho to integrate him as a serious part in his plans. He just had a productive pre-season tour where he scored 4 goals in all. Yahoo! EuroSport now reports that he has been given strong further backing by his team-mate Gary Cahill. The England international was quoted speaking highly of Lukaku as he said, “He had a great loan spell at West Brom last season, has been flying in training and scored two great goals (in Jakarta).

“I don’t see why he shouldn’t be a Chelsea player. I play against him in training a lot and he’s a handful just with his pace and power.”

“His finishing is great too. He’s still a young lad, but scored a lot of goals at West Brom last season.”

“It’s exciting times for him and I’m sure he’s looking forward to the season.”

With such strong words of motivation by Cahill, do you see Lukaku working even harder and probably going on to cement his place in the first-team setup of Chelsea? Will he finally get his chance to prove himself at Chelsea, or will be again be sent out on loan?
