Bertrand Wants Chelsea Resolution

Bertrand Wants Chelsea Resolution

Left-back, Ryan Bertrand has remarkably been sent out on loan for the ninth time during his Blues career but his hoping this time with Southampton is his last. Labelling the Chelsea management as being dishonest, Bertrand wants to call time on his Chelsea career and could see himself permanently at St. Mary’s.

The 25-year-old, who scored his first goal for the Saints last weekend, is a Champions League winner with Chelsea but his future seems to lie away from the Bridge. He has revealed to Mirror that broken promises by his parent club have forced him to seek a move away.

He said, “The situation became clear to me before I went on loan to Aston Villa (last season). I was getting those 15, 20, 25, 30-plus games a season, until I hit a stumbling block. That’s when the alarm bells rang. Before that, I had a chance to move from the club, but I was advised that I didn’t need to do that.”

He added, “It all unravelled in front of my eyes, and certain things didn’t make sense in terms of what certain people had said to me. All I ask for is honesty, and I didn’t get that. I wanted to be in a situation where the club is looking for the same things. In a way, me as a person and Southampton as a football club are quite similar. We’re both striving to do great things.”

So it seems Chelsea’s loan policy is going to cost them the services of a quality English defender (a rare commodity these days) as you cannot really blame the talented Bertrand for wanting to move where his chances of appearing in the Premier League are distinctly better. He has proven he belongs at the highest level but Mourinho seems to prefer the other international options he has for the left back position – shame as Bertrand could do the job if he was given the opportunity and backed.
